Benalla Festival cancels this year and sets its sights on 2021

The 2020 Benalla Festival has cancelled this year’s event due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Festival in regional Victoria was scheduled to run from October 31 to November 8.

“Not holding the Festival this year is a great disappointment for me and I am sure for the whole community, as it is our chance to celebrate the vibrancy of Benalla and District,” Benalla Festival Advisory Committee Chair, Cr Barbara Alexander said.

“It is however the responsible thing for us to do because the safety of everyone in our community comes first and there are restrictions in place.

“I know it is tough, but even the smaller Festival events, or any events for that matter, that maybe attract 40 or 50 people are not possible under the current restrictions.”

Planning for the 2021 Benalla Festival is underway having secured $26,400 from the federal government to deliver The Game, a large-scale, interactive community competition.

“This funding and planning for the 2021 Festival is important to helping our community recover from this pandemic and in bringing events and festivals safely back to Benalla,” Cr Alexander said.
