Brisbane has been announced as host city for the biennial International Society for Music Education (ISME) World Conference, which will be held in Australia for the first time in 32 years.
Taking place in July 2022, the conference will utilise venues will be in and around the Southbank precinct, centring on the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
This year, the event was scheduled for Helsinki, Finland, but had to be cancelled due the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When this process started a southern hemisphere event was favoured by the ISME Board though bids from other cities were considered Cape Town and Brisbane were the final two locations,” Ian Harvey, ISME Chief Executive told Music Australia.
“Brisbane in so many ways is the perfect location for a winter southern hemisphere event.”
There will be an additional series of pre-conference events that will be held across Australia and perhaps in New Zealand in the week prior.
