The tourism sector is building its hopes of new targeted financial assistance beyond JobKeeper which wraps up at the end of this month.
Tourism & Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond said she is confident “potential support options are being closely considered at this critical juncture”.
More than 34 per cent of the country’s tourism hubs had suffered a 40 per cent or more decline in visitors in the year ended September due to the pandemic, according to the latest TTF research.
Falls in visitor numbers in the rest of Australia ranged between 10 per cent to 40 per cent.
“Almost every corner of Australia from Inner Melbourne to Broome and from South Australia to North Queensland is still reeling from the pain of this sharp and sustained visitor drop off,” Osmond said.
