Hospitality power couple Martin Benn and Vicki Wild have left one of Melbourne’s most anticipated restaurants just days after it opened.

Benn, the culinary mastermind of Sydney’s much loved Sepia restaurant, and his maitre d wife relocated to Melbourne to oversee restaurateur Chris Lucas’ latest fine dining vision Society.

After four years of planning the $15 million restaurant briefly opened in July before being shut down by the latest lockdown. However, it has been revealed that Benn and Wild walked away from the venue just five days after its opening.

The 100-seat flagship restaurant of the 80 Collins development in the CBD featured a 38-item a la carte menu created by Benn. Chef Luke Headon will now lead the kitchen when the restaurant reopens.

“Martin is saddened to be leaving the team of loyal and talented chefs, but is confident that they will continue to ensure the ongoing success of the business,” a spokesperson for Benn told Good Food.

“Martin is proud of what he has achieved in opening Society. For now Martin is hanging up his chef’s jacket and considering some new options, and is looking forward to a well-earned break.”
