A private museum in Adelaide has unveiled plans to transform itself into a “tourist destination” featuring a new event space catering up to 350 people.
Home to thousands of fine 18th-century and 19th-century European paintings, antiques and art objects, The David Roche Foundation House Museum in North Adelaide has unveiled $16 million development plans to add an auditorium, four luxury suites and a restaurant.
Museum director Robert Reason said the development is “about the complete experience”.
“You can see the collection, have a meal, go to a talk or a concert in the auditorium, stay overnight … it becomes a complete cultural package and a great tourist destination,” he told The Advertiser.
The project is being assessed by the State Planning Commission.
