Village Roadshow Theme Parks has been given the greenlight to build a new $333 million hotel at its Movie World theme park on the Gold Coast.

Plans for the 600-room hotel, which include event facilities, were approved by the council yesterday. The 22-storey tower will also feature a “panoramic sky deck”, infinity pool, bar and restaurants on its 21st level.

“The function facilities are expected to have 130,000 attendees, creating $125 million in expenditure on the Gold Coast,” Planning chair Mark Hammel told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“They are massive numbers. It’s brilliant to see a site that has its own zoning as a special tourism hub hopefully take the next step of delivering this.”

Village Roadshow said it would continue to work through the planning for the project.

“We currently do not have any detailed timelines for the hotel project, as there will be a considerable amount of work still to be done which is standard process given the nature of such projects, more details will be released at an appropriate time,” Village Roadshow said in a statement.
