Melbourne’s Rising festival announces 2022 program

Melbourne’s Rising festival has announced its line-up for 2022 after two previous attempts to launch the festival during the pandemic.

A merger of the Melbourne International Arts Festival and White Night, Rising’s debut in 2020 was scrapped while a series of lockdowns saw the festival’s second attempt to launch scuppered after just one day.

Festival co-directors Hannah Fox and Gideon Obarzanek are much more optimistic this year, with a program that includes 801 artists performing in 84 projects.

Among them is Artist Robin Fox’s audiovisual installation Birrarung Monochord, which will send laser beams from Immigration Bridge in the west and Birrarung Marr park in the east

“Lasers of this power have never been used in Victoria before,” said Obarzanek.
