Markus Svensson new Qantas Domestic CEO

Markus Svensson has been appointed the CEO of Qantas Domestic.

Qantas Group chief customer officer Markus Svensson has been appointed the CEO of Qantas Domestic following the retirement of Andrew David last year.

Svensson will step into his new role in November at the same time Vanessa Hudson takes over from Alan Joyce as Group CEO.

The carrier also announced other new appointments with current strategy, people and technology executive Rob Marcolina promoted to chief financial officer.

Executive manager of Qantas Freight Catriona Larrit will become the chief customer and digital officer, while manager of safety executive Andrew Monaghan will take on a new chief risk officer role.

“We have a deep bench of experience at Qantas, which means we’re able to recruit internally for many senior executive roles when they come up, and that makes transition a lot smoother,” Hudson said.

“The structural changes announced today are about increasing our focus on a few key areas as we move from recovery to growth, especially when it comes to things that matter most to our people and our customers.”
