JetStar is resuming some flights between Cairns and Brisbane, with a biweekly service kicking off this week.
The new service part of the minimum domestic and regional network supported by the Federal Government.
“One of the factors in it being Jetstar, is the A320s that Jetstar flies have containerised cargo, so they’re particularly good for carrying freight, which is one of the purposes of this minimal domestic network that the government is supporting at the moment,” Cairns Airport chief executive Norris Carter told The Cairns Post.
“This will not only get people around, but freight and medical supplies as well as all the online shopping people are doing since it’s hard to get to the shops now.”
Despite yesterday’s announcement that Virgin Australia will go into voluntary administration, the carrier will continue its current Cairns schedule for the next eight weeks under the government agreement.
