In the age of pandemics hygiene is the new standard by which hotels will be judged, with Marriott International launching a new Global Cleanliness Council to “promote even higher standards of cleanliness in the age of Covid-19”
“[The] multi-pronged platform [will] elevate its cleanliness standards and hospitality norms and behaviours to meet the new health and safety challenges presented by the current pandemic environment,” Marriott said.
The hotel giant, which has been forced to shutter around a quarter of its global network, is using equipment such as electrostatic sprayers with hospital-grade disinfectant to quickly sanitise surfaces in their hotels.
“Electrostatic spraying technology uses the highest classification of disinfectants recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization to treat known pathogens,” Marriott stated.
Marriott CEO and president Arne Sorenson said “we are living in a new age, with Covid-19 front and centre for our guests and our associates”.
“We want our guests to understand what we are doing today and planning for in the near future in the areas of cleanliness, hygiene and social distancing so that when they walk through the doors of one of our hotels, they know our commitment to their health and safety is our priority,” he said.
“It’s equally important to us that our associates know the changes we are making to help safeguard their health as they serve our guests.”
