Indonesian tourism fund to support business events

The Indonesian government is preparing to launch a new tourism fund to help support major events and business events.

The Indonesia Tourism Fund (ITF) will initially receive two trillion rupiah ($196m) to support bids for international major events in the second half of the year.

“Events are the most effective strategy for promotion,” said Sandiaga Uno, minister of tourism and creative economy.

“(They increase) the number of quality tourist visits and have a big impact on the economy.

“We are currently finalising the scheme, financing mechanism and (determining) the management institution. Currently the government is working on a legal basis, including waiting for the ratification of a presidential regulation regarding the fund.”

Indonesia recently hosted international events including the G20 Summit and the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
