A beachside suburb in Perth is taking back control of its events in an effort to boost its finances.
The Town of Cottesloe will manage events at the civic centre and gardens after the contract for an outside catering and events firm expired.
Heyder & Shears has been the exclusive contractor for events at Cottesloe Civic Centre since 2017 but did not submit a proposal to extend its contract after it expired this August.
Instead, the councillors decided to take over management of in-house events for a 12-month period before reviewing its position.
Cottesloe chief executive Matthew Scott told PerthNow under the previous arrangement they received “very little income from civic events in the facility”.
Heyder & Shears said declining interest in the venue had been a factor and advised the council to alter their venue hire to a one-off fee rather than an hourly charge to encourage larger events.
