Airbnb sees massive rise in hotel listings globally

Hotel room listings on booking platform Airbnb have rocketed 152 per cent globally in the space of 12 months.

Airbnb said there had been a “152 per cent increase in the number of rooms available on Airbnb in properties that hosts categorised as boutique hotels, bed and breakfasts, and other hospitality venues like hostels and resorts”.

Boutique hotels are particularly active on the booking platform, according to reports. In Sydney, Little Albion Guest House, Terminus Pyrmont and the Old Clare Hotel are among the hotels using Airbnb to boost bookings.

The rise can be attributed in part by Airbnb making it easier for boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts to list on its platform.

“Nearly 90 per cent of guests who first used Airbnb to book a hotel room have returned to our platform and booked a room in a home or an entire home for their next trip,” the company stated in a memo.
