Accor is expanding its presence in Japan with the addition of 23 properties and over 6,000 rooms from the Daiwa Resorts portfolio which are set to relaunch under the Grand Mercure and Mercure brands.

Accor has partnered with Ebisu Resort LLC to renovate and rebrand the Daiwa portfolio hotels which range in location from the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido to the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa.

“We are excited to be adding these great hotels to our portfolio in Japan, especially as the desire to connect with nature is increasingly in demand amongst travellers today,” said Garth Simmons, CEO of Premium, Midscale and Economy Division for Accor in Asia.

“This agreement will offer our loyal guests just that, with their location in charming coastal towns, proximity to nature and authentic local experiences. Popular destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto will always remain in high demand, however if you want to immerse yourself in the real authentic culture of a country, sometimes you need to escape the big cities and head off the beaten path.”

Koji Mayanagi, president & CEO of Daiwa Resort, thanked everyone who has supported Daiwa Resorts.

“We would like to work together with the local community more than ever before and share the appeal of each region not only within Japan but also around the world,” said Mayanagi.

The hotels will undergo a revamp and are expected to open by the first half of 2024.
