The Quest Palmerston in the Northern Territory has come under fire for a Facebook post that showed a photo of bloodstained sheets with the caption “It must be Shark Week”.
Unsurprisingly the post copped an instant backlash on social media, with women’s advocacy group Share The Dignity reposting it on their Facebook page, saying it was a “derogatory term” referring to a woman’s period.
“There are just no words, Quest Palmerston,” Share The Dignity’s post read.
“Shaming a woman for getting her period and posting pics on social media.”
Quest Palmerston immediately took the post down and disabled their review and recommendations feature.
“The unauthorised post by a Quest Palmerston employee was deeply upsetting and we understand the strong community reaction it provoked,” a Quest Apartment Hotels spokesperson told the ABC.
“The employee responsible for the post has been suspended and will now be subject to an official internal investigation.”
