The Star stands down over 8000 workers

The Star Entertainment Group has been forced to stand down more than 8000 of its workers following the closure of its food, beverage, conferencing, and gaming facilities in Sydney, the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

“The Star has taken a very difficult, but necessary, decision in relation to its workforce … these stand downs include senior management,” The Star said.

The Star has provided two weeks of paid pandemic leave and employees will be able to access any accrued annual and long service leave entitlements.

The announcement follows the federal government’s inclusion of casino operations in its list of imposed bans on gatherings and non-essential services.
