The Everest at Randwick bets on big crowd post lockdown

The Everest horse race is hoping to be Sydney’s first major event with crowds following the end of lockdown.

Scheduled for October 16 at Royal Randwick, the race is expected to attract a 5,000-strong crowd if it gets the tick of approval.

Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club are trying to get an exemption for the event irrespective of whether the state reaches it 70 per cent vaccination target on the date, arguing an outdoor event is safe to proceed.

Current predictions are that the state will hit the target between October 11 to October 18.
