The Pier01 Restaurant at Ulverstone on the north coast of Tasmania is closing in early August with the owner to focus on the events and catering side of his business.
Owner and chef Mat Waller said the restaurant side of the business would close its doors at the end of the Cocktails for Cancer function on August 2.
“It’s over seven years of life we’ve put into this place. We’ve seen it come from a rocky beginning to an establishment that is extremely well received and well patronised,” Waller told The Advocate.
“We’re not closing our function business. We’re closing the Pier01 Restaurant down and will now be Pier01 Events and Functions.
“We’ll still be doing events and catering, off-site catering and event organisation.”
Pier01 has supported many local charities and not-for-profit groups, raising over $750,000 for them.
“I’ve done a huge amount of functions, breakfasts and groups like the Cancer Council and Alzheimer’s Australia. The MG Car Club function was huge – 450 people for five events,” he said.
