Sydney Opera House has been revealed as the venue for the upcoming Quad leaders’ summit on May 24, which will see US President Joe Biden making his first official visit to Australia since he took up office.
The leaders’ summit will also welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The event budget for the federal police is almost $5 million alone, while the entire event is expected to cost $23 million.
While the meeting is focused on regional security, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it was also an opportunity to “showcase this beautiful city and this wonderful country to the entire world”.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said the state and federal agencies would work to “minimise disruption to the Sydney community”.
“My government and our agencies have been working hard to ensure the success of this significant event over many months,” he said.
