Sydney Airport put one of its hangars to good use while the pandemic stifles air travel, hosting an exclusive charity event that raises money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
The $1500 a head Gold Dinner 2021 attracted a who’s who of the nation’s celebrities who arrived for the night at a red carpet event in the departure lounge.
Organised by Westfield shopping centre heiress Monica Saunders-Weinberg, the event raised $4.6 million after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
The Hemsworth Brothers were among the star studied guest list, who enjoyed a special Italian menu thanks to Crown Sydney’s a’Mare restaurant and head chef Alessandro Pavoni, with a helping hand from Guillaume Brahimi.
The menu included local burrata, veal tenderloin with tuna mayonnaise, baby capers and pine nuts, crudo of tuna, kingfish and salmon with a citrus dressing, risotto parmigiana – with 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano, wagyu beef cheek and braised chiati, with leftover food donated to OzHarvest.
Karl Stefanovic, with help from Hamish Blake, did the emceeing honours.
“I was personally blown away by the genuine enthusiasm and willingness to give back,” Saunders-Weinberg said.
