Sporting events scramble as Auckland goes into seven day lockdown

The organisers of America’s Cup Event yacht race are working “through the implications” of Auckland’s latest lockdown.

Prime Minister Jacinda Arden threw the city into a seven-down lock on Sunday following a single case of Covid-19 with the America’s Cup Event yacht race set to start on March 6 in Auckland’s harbour.

Sailing is not the only event facing disruption, with the upcoming Twenty20 cricket match in Auckland between New Zealand and Australia now to be played in Wellington without crowds.

The latest lockdown comes hot on the heels of a snap three-day lockdown in February.
