Splendour’s pop-up city festival cancels as Sydney goes into lockdown

Organisers of a nine-day Sydney pop-up music festival set to take place at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal in July have pulled the plug on the event.

The cancellation of Splendour in the City followed the announcement of Sydney’s two-week lockdown due to an escalation of Covid cases across the city.

“With Greater Sydney currently in lockdown until 9 July and COVID-19 outbreaks now evolving in other states, it has become impossible to progress with plans to move artists and staff around the country,” the organisers said in a statement.

“Organisers also acknowledge the health and safety of staff, volunteers and ticketholders is the foremost consideration in line with the health advice from authorities.”

Splendour in the Grass itself is still scheduled to take place from November 19–21 in Byron Bay.
