SandTunes festival relocates following backlash from local Gold Coast community

The inaugural SandTunes festival has succumbed to a backlash from local residents at Coolangatta Beach and relocated to a new venue.

The festival, whose line-up includes an an exclusive performance from US performer Travis Scott, has now found itself a new home in Carrara’s Metricon Stadium.

Promoter TEG Dainty said in a statement the move will provide attendees with a greater festival experience.

“While Coolangatta presented as the perfect backdrop to host this event, and despite Gold Coast City Council approval, it has become increasingly apparent that local businesses and residents are now not in favour of that location,” said TEG Dainty chief executive Geoff Jones. “We have listened – and we are acting.

“We are committed to bringing premium ‘A-list’ artists to this great city and this great state and regardless of venue, we can’t imagine SandTunes being staged anywhere else than the GC.”

Queensland Minister for Tourism Kate Jones said the festival will bring thousands of tourists to the Gold Coast and “pump millions into the economy”.

The festival will take place from November 30 to December 1.
