Robots and keyless access as Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour adapts to coronavirus

The Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour is making use of two robots that have been sitting idle since its opening in 2017.

The robots are being used to deliver hand-sanitiser to guests during the coronavirus pandemic.

Owner Jerry Schwartz is also trialling a new keyless check-in and check-out system which will allow guests to completely bypass, or socially distance, staff at reception from the point of arrival to departure.

“Airlines have been able to introduce seamless booking and check-in via smartphone and I want to replicate that for hotel stays,” Schwartz told Traveller.

“It has been something I’ve been pushing for quite a while, long before Covid-19. But the impact of the virus and the move towards social-distancing has made the transition even more an imperative.”
