Return of interstate and overseas travellers sees demand for Dark Mofo soar

Tasmanian winter festival Dark Mofo has seen a surge in demand from interstate and overseas attendees with borders restrictions now a thing of the past.

More than 30,000 tickets were sold within hours of launching with around two thirds (63%) going to interstate and overseas attendees.

Organisers anticipate demand for the event will increase by 50 per cent compared to the 2019 festival.

More than 100 artists from 30 countries are heading to Hobart for the ‘Resurrection’ themed festival.

“As the cultural world re-emerges from the darkness of cancellations and lockdowns, we are all experiencing a rebirth, of sorts,” said creative director Leigh Carmichael.

“The forced isolation gave rise to a re-evaluation of what matters, to new ideas, new dreams.”
