NSW Destination Sydney Surrounds South has announced the third and final event in its current Visitor Economy Symposium series, to be held in Wollongong on May 19.
Business operators, local government representatives and industry stakeholders are invited to attend the day-long program which will include practical sessions and informative presentations from guest speakers.
Futurist Michael McQueen will return to bring his insights into practice in a hands-on innovation masterclass.
“As an operator myself, I know how busy things can get,” said Destination Sydney Surrounds South Chair Catherine Shields.
“Events such as this give us all an opportunity to have a day away, to meet and network with other like-minded industry colleagues. Looking to the future and collaborating is essential to success in our industry. This Symposium will deliver a hands-on program and equip operators with useful skills and resources we can use every day in our businesses.”
Minister Tourism Stuart Ayres said the NSW Government recognised the significant value that the regions provide to the State’s visitor economy and how tourism was the lifeblood of many regional communities.
“If COVID-19 has shown us anything, it’s that the NSW visitor economy is everyone’s business – it accounts for almost 300,000 jobs and 110,000 businesses and is integral to our State’s success,” he said.
“NSW is the largest visitor economy in Australia and with the recent launch of our Visitor Economy Strategy 2030, we’re working to rebuild and grow it to $65 billion by 2030, and deliver on our vision to become the premier visitor economy of the Asia-Pacific.
“We anticipate that regional visitation will be worth $25 billion to the State’s visitor economy by 2030, which is more than a third of the total projected visitor expenditure, demonstrating how crucial our regions are to the economic and social well-being of NSW.
“The knowledge gained at the Visitor Economy Symposium will futureproof our visitor economy, ensuring that NSW continues to offer the best of the best for years to come.”
The free event will be held at Novotel Northbeach, Wollongong. Registrations are available here.
