Qld Premier eyes pill testing trial in ACT following festival deaths

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will consider the outcomes of a pill testing trial in the ACT but has not ruled out tougher penalties after two people died from a suspected overdose at the Rabbits Eat Lettuce festival on Easter Monday.

The organisers of the music festival had their permit cancelled by NSW police last year over site safety risks and fears regarding drug-taking before moving it this year to Cherrabah Resort in Elbow Valley.

Health Committee chairman Aaron Harper will travel to the ACT, with Palaszczuk saying they “will await the outcome of the trial”.

“If we need to look at tougher enforcement, that option is still on the table as well,” she said.
