Qantas new NYC flight via Auckland takes off

Qantas has relaunched its service to New York skipping Los Angeles for a stopover in Auckland before the 16-hour direct flight.

The carrier has not flown to New York since 2020 with the new service on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners now competing with Air New Zealand’s current Auckland to NYC service.

Qantas is also expanding and refurbishing its Auckland International Lounge, which is slated to open in mid-2024.

“We think this route will be very popular with Australians given the opportunity to connect via Auckland, with the option to spend some time in the city before heading onwards to New York, and it also gives New Zealanders more choice,” said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.

Qantas director of food Neil Perry has created a range of classic New York menu items for both the lounge and inflight offering including hot dogs, bagels and Reuben sandwiches.

“We are using some amazing local produce to put our own spin on some of New York’s most famous food experiences,” said Perry.
