Passenger numbers soar at Melbourne Airport

Turkish Airlines will operate a new route to Melbourne.

Melbourne Airport has posted a 17 per cent rise in passenger numbers in December compared with the previous year, with a 35 per cent rise in international passengers.

More than 3 million passengers passed through the airport’s gates making it the busiest month since the start of 2020.

The boost in passenger numbers follows a monthly record for overseas services offered at 4,976 international flights.

“Despite the current cost-of-living pressures, many families are prioritising travel and any extra capacity we can bring to the market increases competition and choice for travellers,” said Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus.

“In 2024 we look forward to bringing more seat capacity to Victoria and opening up new markets to our state.”

Turkish Airlines has also been given the greenlight operate a new route to Melbourne.
