Planning for a scaled down Tour Down Under is underway with organisers looking to work around border closures and quarantine requirements.
Scheduled for January, the 2022 cycling event is look set to mirror this year’s much smaller event, which was rebranded the Santos Festival of Cycling, with domestic riders competing rather than the international race meet.
Under current vaccination rates the South Australian border will be reopened in time for the event.
A South Australian Tourism Commission spokeswoman told The Advertiser the event is “important…to the people of SA”.
“Our team is working closely with our key stakeholders to finalise what cycling will look like in January 2022. The health, safety and wellbeing of South Australians, our communities and the international cycling fraternity is at the forefront of our priorities,” the spokeswoman said.
“We are expecting to be able to confirm the 2022 program over the coming week.”
