NSW Premier touts no jab, no entry to venues to incentivise Covid vaccination

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has touted a plan to exclude those who don’t vaccinate from popular venues as a way to incentivise the uptake.

“Clearly, opportunities to travel overseas or opportunities to enter certain workplaces or venues might be enhanced if you have the vaccine,” Berejiklian told The Daily Telegraph.

“Some of those decisions could be inspired by government, (and) some of those decisions might be inspired by the organisation themselves.”

One potential path for such a move to work would be for the Service NSW app to display a green tick as proof someone had been inoculated. Although such a move would involve the federal government.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has already stated he is in favour of mandatory vaccinations for those wanting to travel internationally on the carrier.

But Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has stated that “vaccination in Australia is and will remain voluntary”.

“Our goal is to have as high an uptake of the COVID vaccine as possible,” he said.
