New police unit to keep Brisbane’s major events safer

A new Queensland Police unit has been launched to help event organisers keep their major events in Brisbane safer.

The largest of its kind in the state, the Brisbane Region Major Events Planning Unit will have a strong presence in the City, Fortitude Valley and Riverside to bolster event safety.

“Major events bring a lot of activity to our city, and this unit will ensure the safety of our community through the promotion of those events running smoothly,” Police Minister Mark Ryan told The Courier-Mail.

Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford said the new unit will be able to assist organisers of events in the new precincts in the city.

“I am confident the team working with our local and state Government partners is well placed to continue to showcase our beautiful city as we attract more and more events into the future,” he said.
