New luxury hotel and conference centre in Launceston moves ahead

A proposal for a $50 million luxury hotel and conference centre in Launceston is one step closer after a council vote.

The Gorge Hotel development proposed by Josef Chromy’s JAC Group includes a 145 room 5-star hotel, a 500 capacity conference centre and restaurant and bar facilities for up to 200.

The proposal was first launched in 2019 but hit an obstacle over its height at nine storeys.

“You were right the first time, there is no unreasonable overshadowing and the project is compatible with the broader surrounding area of the city where there are already similar height buildings,” JAC Group Managing Director Dean Cocker said.
