Restaurateur Jonathan Barthelmess has announced plans to open another venue at Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves.
Barthelmess will open a Japanese izakaya and bar in the vacant space next door to his Greek dining venue Greca.
Taking inspiration from his travels in Tokyo, the restaurant will feature a raw section based on sustainable seafood, specially sourced and selected Wagyu beef and an extensive sake and wine list, while the upstairs space will house a vinyl bar with an extensive whiskey list.
“There will be a big raw section on the menu, which will be predominantly based around sustainable seafood, some raw vegetable dishes and meat dishes as well,” Barthelmess told The Courier Mail.
“I’m trying to secure some really hard-to-get cuts of (Australian) Wagyu as well, which I’m pretty excited about.”.
The restaurant has yet to be named or to have secured a head chef.
“We love being part of Howard Smith Wharves where the huge success of Greca has taken us all by surprise,” said Barthelmess.
“By taking the restaurant space next door we can grow and strengthen our team and invest more into the Brisbane dining scene.”
