New Caledonia recorded a 7.5 per cent increase in Australian visitors in 2019, marking five years of growth since 2013 and making Australia the second largest market for New Caledonia after France.
New Caledonia Tourism (NCT) Australia director Emilie Hess said the consistent growth in tourism is a great achievement for the destination.
“The growth in visitation is testament not only to our hard work, but most importantly to the exceptional support of the tourism industry in New Caledonia, which provides incredible accommodation, dining and activity offerings that attract Australian visitors,” she said.
“The 2019 results come alongside early figures for 2020 showing further growth in January and February year on year – 24.3 per cent and 23.9 per cent, respectively. While these are anomalous times, these figures show continued interest from the Australian market for New Caledonia, and we remain optimistic. We are here and we look forward to welcoming Australians to New Caledonia again soon.”
