A former 1970s era motel has been transformed into a new boutique hotel in the Blue Mountains.
Located in Blackheath, the Kyah Boutique Hotel sits on two acres and offers 46-rooms with a Palm Springs-inspired design.
There is also onsite restaurant and bar Blaq overseen by Mate Herceg who is both executive chef and the hotel’s general manager.
“The motel footprint remains but we have totally transformed the property into a hotel, dining and drinking destination that feels sophisticated without losing the warmth or approachability you want from a regular haunt,” said Herceg.
Blaq has a capacity for 170 diners and focuses on a garden to plate philosophy.
“If a shift in a weather pattern means a particular vegetable becomes available sooner than I had expected, I want to be able to take advantage of that,” Herceg said.
“The majority of our suppliers are located within a 80km radius to Kyah and that’s important to me. We really do have an abundance of sensational produce in the Mountains to choose from and I want to showcase that as much as possible.”
The drinks list at Blaq bar also champions local suppliers, from international award-winning Karu Distillery located at the foot of the mountains to the Katoomba-based Blue Mountains Gin and Mountain Culture Beer Co.
