The Tesselaar Tulip Festival in the Yarra Valley has been forced to cancel this year’s event following the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
The festival attracts 100,000 visitors to the area making it one of Mt Dandenong’s biggest events.
This Dandenong Ranges flower festival was due to run from September 12 to October 11.
The news is a major blow to the region’s visitor economy which was hoping for a rebound following the cancellation of the three-week KaBloom festival in March.
“Our tulips are in the ground and the team at Tesselaar have been working hard to ensure we presented Victoria and beyond with another year of amazing colour and excitement both on and off the fields,” Festival director Paul Tesselaar told the Herald Sun.
“However, with the current Stage 4 restrictions and ever-changing COVID-19 landscape it has left us with no other option than to cancel this year’s event.”
Tesselaar said they looked forward to holding “a bigger and brighter festival” in 2021.
