Mona’s Festival of Music and Art, Mona Foma, will have events in Launceston and Hobart in January next year.
Mona Foma curator Brian Ritchie said they were “compelled” to reinvent the festival in a big way.
“One weekend in Launceston, and one weekend in Hobart, to spread the love,” he told The Mercury.
“Great Tasmanian artists, unusual venues, and an irrepressible creativity.”
Visit Northern Tasmania CEO Chris Griffin welcomed the announcement.
“We are confident that the dual programs they’ll run between Launceston and Hobart will have Tasmanians enthusiastically travelling back and forth between our two great cities,” he said.
Destination Southern Tasmania CEO Alex Heroys said sharing the festival across two cities would boost the economies of both.
“I predict that Tasmanians will flood north and south on both weekends to take advantage of the acts on show,” he said.
Mona Foma will be held in Launceston on January 15-17 and Hobart on January 22-24.
