More than 30 events will share in almost a quarter of a million of funding after a unanimous vote by the City of Launceston.
The council approved $246,250 in funding to be shared by 31 events including 2021 Carols by Candlelight, the Basin Concert and the Australian Musical Theatre Festival.
Mona Foma 2022 will received the largest grant of $50,000 under the council’s Special Event Sponsorship budget, which also gave $15,000 to the African Music and Cultural Festival previously held in Melbourne.
Twenty-one smaller events were also approved including the Winter Solstice Splash, the Launceston Ukulele Jamboree and the Soggy Bottom Cardboard Box Boat Regatta and Family Fun Day.
Councillor Karina Stojansek said she encouraged “everybody in the community to support these events”.
“We’ve been so fortunate in Tasmania that we haven’t suffered from extended periods of lockdown so I think we should make hay while the sun shines and get involved in these small events,” she told The Examiner.
