Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) hosted the 34th National Banksia Sustainability Awards last week marking the second time the venue has supported the Banksia Foundation’s work to promote a more sustainable future.
The Banksia Awards recognise leaders in sustainability, biodiversity, climate change and First Nations.
MCEC has embarked on an ambitious sustainability strategy to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastics, divert 90 per cent of waste from landfill by 2025 and become 100 per cent powered by renewable electricity by 2028.
Natalie O’Brien, MCEC’s chief executive, said they were also proud to sponsor the Banksia Net Zero Leadership Award for a second time.
“It was fantastic to see so many people in attendance at the awards ceremony last week to celebrate leaders, changemakers and innovators in sustainability from across Australia,” she said.
“MCEC is privileged to be part of the incredible network of award sponsors and to recognise those that are leading the way to a more sustainable future.”
