Melbourne Airport’s parking squeeze as major works begin

Parking at Melbourne Airport is about to get squeezed as 2,000 carparking spaces are taken offline while construction starts on the next stage of a road overpass and drop-off zone.

The major works include new pedestrian bridges built between the new pick-up and drop-off zone and terminals 1, 2 and 3.

Once completed, only commercial vehicles will allowed to use the existing space in front of the terminals.

While the new development is expected to significantly reduce traffic on Airport Drive, the construction will impact parking at the airport in the short term.

“We encourage everyone to book parking online to secure the best rate, especially during peak times like the coming long weekend and Easter holidays,” said Jai McDermott, the airport’s chief of ground transport.

The work starts next month and will not finish until 2026.
