Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) has welcomed three new faces to its board with Oliver Sheer, Benjamin Ferry and Craig Watson to fill the three directors positions created by retirement.
Sheer is managing director of Be Challenged, Ferry is director of commercial, premium & essentials, Australasia & Pacific at IHG Hotels & Resorts, and Craig Watson is general manager of Sydney Prop Specialists. The three replace retiring directors Michael Firman, Paul Davison and Mike Schrafft.
They join Jess Glass (University of Queensland), Megan Peters (Lateral Event Management), Vanessa Green (Cliftons Events Solutions), Emma McDowell (Saxton Speakers Bureau), Thomas Staunton (SoldOut Events) and Alicia Thomas (Royal International Convention Centre) as existing directors.
Green was elected as Chair, with Peters remaining deputy chair and Watson the new Treasurer. MEA CEO Peter McDonald was reappointed by the Board as company secretary.
Green thanked the outgoing directors for their contributions to MEA and the events industry.
“Michael Firman and Paul Davison have dedicated five and three years respectively to the MEA Board, serving with exemplary commitment during challenging times,” she said.
“Michael’s leadership as Chair for the past two years and Paul’s diligent work as Treasurer have not only steered the association but also provided a wealth of ideas, thought leadership, and hands-on support. I also sincerely thank Mike Schrafft, a seasoned industry veteran, for his valuable insights and dedicated service.
“As we bid farewell to these exceptional individuals, I am excited to welcome our three new directors. Their diverse backgrounds and expertise in various sectors of the events industry bring a fresh perspective to our Board.
