A new Mandarin Oriental hotel has been approved as part of a development in Melbourne’s Southbank opposite Crown Resorts.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will operate a 158-room hotel as part of $1.5 billion apartment tower development to be called The One, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.
The development is expected to open in 2029 and will mark the Hong Kong based brand’s debut in Australia.
A previous plan to open a Mandarin Oriental hotel on a Collins Street fell over after the developer got cold feet and sold the site to another developer in 2022.
