Hotel guests in China to scan bed sheets for cleanliness

A laundry service in the Chinese city of Wuhan is launching a high-tech system that reveals when bed linen was last washed.

Wuhan Kunteng Laundry, which provides cleaning services for many of the city’s hotels, will implant microchips into bed sheets, towels and quilts, which can be scanned by guests’ mobile phones to reveal when they were last washed. The chips are water-resistant and able to withstand high temperatures.

China is no stranger to implementing high tech solutions for the accommodation sector. Last year, InterContinental Hotels Group teamed up with Chinese tech company Baidu to introduce artificial intelligence-supported Smart Rooms in China at the InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun and InterContinental Guangzhou Exhibition Centre.

Marriott International also debuted its facial recognition technology for check-in at the Hangzhou Marriott Hotel Qianjiang and Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay.
