Outdoor seated events for up to 500 people will now be allowed in NSW, up from 20 people. The events will still be subject to the 4-square-metre rule.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian also announced an easing of social-distancing restrictions on outdoor dining, saying the five square metre rule will be reduced to just two square metres.
Venues must use electronic sign-in systems such as a QR code if they wish to increase patron capacity. The current four square metre rule for indoor spaces will still be imposed.
“The health advice we received is that it was okay to take a step back,” said Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
“In NSW, we are focused on keeping the virus under control but also ensuring our economy keeps going and these changes will allow hospitality venues to increase their capacity in a COVID-safe way.
“This is also a big boost for our music industry with more people in NSW able to enjoy music outdoors over the summer.”
