Village Roadshow is reopening its theme parks including Movie World, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild within weeks.
Sea World, Paradise Country and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will open on June 26, while the Australian Outback Spectacular horse show and dinner follows on July 3. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild will open on July 15.
The theme parks will initially open at 50 per cent capacity with Village looking to be at full capacity by the end of September.
Village Roadshow Theme Parks chief operating officer Bikash Randhawa said it was time “to forget about all the misery and problems”, but conceded they were unsure how people would react while Queensland’s borders remain closed.
“This is like shooting an arrow in the dark with the borders still closed,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
“We don’t know what the level of confidence will be out there.
The help instill confidence Village has introduced comprehensive hygiene measures including a new app to book rides and order food and beverages on their phones, sanitising public areas and cleaning rides before and after each use. Markers will also be used to ensure social distancing while people queue for rides.
“There are a lot of things we will be working on with the health department when we reopen,” he said.
“If everything goes well we will have a discussion on increasing capacity. It is a responsible approach to opening the park.”
