The Gold Coast has secured a major air show in a five year agreement, which is hoped to attract hundreds of thousands of people across the three-day event.

To be held in August 2023, Pacific Airshow Gold Coast will mark the debut of the show in Queensland by organisers of the Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach, California.

Kevin Elliott, chief executive of event organiser Code Four, said it would be “one of the biggest shows it [the Gold Coast] has ever seen”.

“The show will be centred right on Surfers Paradise beach, but the activations will probably extend a few kilometres in each direction,” he told the ABC.

The US air show in Huntington Beach sees more than 3 million people attend over three days.

“It’s a global stage but this is also a local event for South-East Queensland,” Elliott said.

The event was secured through a collaboration between the City of Gold Coast, Major Events Gold Coast, Tourism and Events Queensland, and the Australian Defence Force.

Major Events Gold Coast chief executive Jan McCormick said the air show has been secured to run for five years.

“This exciting five-year partnership well and truly cements our city’s reputation as a world-class events destination that has the capacity to host the biggest shows on the planet,” McCormick told the ABC.
