Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre celebrates 20th anniversary

Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is celebrating two decades of hosting thousands of domestic and international events.

The collaboration between the Queensland government and Jupiters saw the $167 million Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre open as Australia’s largest regional convention centre in 2004.

In 2009, the Centre was expanded to meet demand, adding two multifunction halls, three meeting rooms and three kitchens, bringing the total exhibition space to 10,000 sqm with the expansion.

IGA/Metcash Expo was GCCEC’s first corporate client in 2004 and has remained so for 20 years. GCCEC was also the first convention centre to achieve EarthCheck Gold Certification in 2013, a milestone surpassed when it achieved EarthCheck Master certification in 2023.

“The Centre has been a major economic driver to the region, supporting local business and employment, attracting leaders of industry, sport and entertainment to our city,” said Nick Jeffrey, Acting General Manager at GCCEC.

“In fact, last month The International Communications Association Conference attracted more than $8 million in economic benefit.”
