Darwin Convention Centre among Australian Tourism Awards winners

Darwin Convention Centre won the Business Event Venues category in the 2021 Australian Tourism Awards.

The winners of the 2021 Australian Tourism Awards have been announced with Queensland, Victoria and the Northern Territory coming away with gold in three separate event categories.

Darwin Convention Centre won the Business Event Venues category, with Rockhampton’s Empire Apartment Hotel and Peppers Silo Hotel in Launceston winning silver and bronze respectively.

Beef Australia in Queensland came away with top honours in Major Festivals and Events category. The National Gallery of Australia – Botticelli to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London exhibition (ACT) took silver and Victoria’s Tesselaar Tulip Festival scooped bronze.

Vitoria’s Ballarat Heritage Festival was awarded gold in the Festivals and Events category, while CinefestOZ (WA) and Isaac Regional Council – St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend (QLD) were the respective runners up.

Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall congratulated all the WA medallists and finalists for continuing to deliver outstanding tourism experiences over a challenging two-year period.

“The list of WA medallists from the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards highlights the world-class tourism experiences Western Australia has to offer,” Hall said.

Victorian Tourism Industry Council CEO Felicia Mariani said it was “heartening” to see Victorian businesses acknowledged for their efforts.

“After an impossibly difficult two years, it’s incredibly heartening to see so many Victorian businesses and communities rewarded for their mammoth efforts to recover,” she said.
