Darwin Convention Centre will increase its capacity by 4350 seats to a total of 5550 seats and undergo an upgrade across its AV and public amenities.

The upgrade was announced by the Northern Territory Government in its 2024 budget, which set aside more than $19 million to expand the venue.

The announcement follows Singaporean hotel company CEL being picked to develop and manage the Darwin Convention Centre Hotel on the Waterfront Precinct.

“Tourism and major events are key pillars of the Territory’s economy and that’s why my government is backing projects that support growth in these industries,” said NT Chief Minister Eva Lawler.

“We’re boosting the capacity of the Darwin Convention Centre because we need the facilities to be able to bring bigger and better events to the Territory, because that means more work opportunities for Territorians.

“The $19.2m investment into expanding the Darwin Convention Centre will deliver flow on benefits far and wide.”

The Budget also includes $41 million for NT Major Events, with a $4 million boost to continue to deliver major events and attract new events to add to the Territory’s calendar.
